Five-times champions Helvecia travelled to Manchester with a few questions to be answered. North group runner-ups Manchester were to be a challenge for the London club, and so it proved for most of the game.
Helvecia’s manager Luis Marimón declared summarised the game:¨
This is a very important win for us, not only purely result-wise but also emotionally. After a few weeks of difficult work, we faced the team with some important players missing, but we still completed a good game, intelligent, managing the game and controlling the pace. Only through our own mistakes they created some danger. That’s how 1-0 came to be, in a defensive mistake! However, we managed to get ourselves together, remained calm and got back.
The second half we improved and were better than them, we deserved the win. We were organised defensively and had a better tempo going forward, which allowed us to reach a clear 2-6. We also defended well their powerplaying, so they created little danger. The final 3-8 leaves good sensations towards the home leg. We must work well this week to correct mistakes and reinforce positives”.
The second leg will be played on Sunday 8th May at the Leyton Score Centre, with a 2:15pm kick off.
